Triptych
Untitled 1 |
30.5cm by 61cm (each individual canvas)
Acrylic on Canvas December 2019 Exhibition Text Inspired by Alphonse Muchaand and the Art Nouveau movement, these paintings depict the three sides to a person: how they are, how people see them, and how they feel. This goes along with my theme identities and relationships because it depicts three sides of me in a creative form. |

Process
- building the canvases
- I used two 1ft sides and two 2ft sides to make each frame for the paintings
- they fit together easily since they had special slots
- hammered to make sure they were stable
- then I cut a piece of canvas from a big roll of canvas that everyone used for their painting
- i stretched it over
- lay the cloth over
- staple long sides down tautly, but not the corners
- staple short sides down tautly, but not the corners
- stapled corners in a triangle shape
- cut of excess
- wrote name on the wood frame as to not mess up the painting
- gesso the canvas
- start from the back
- to the sides then the front
- for even coverage
- drawing over the canvas proved difficult because it was hard to get the proportions right.
- painted
- using black, white, brown, burnt sienna, red, blue, yellow, green, orange, a nicer blue, and matte gold
- mixed my own skin tone
- refined painting
- touched up edges
Reflection
Over all I could have done a lot better. I was out for a week and a half and that really messed up my schedule for this project. I should have took the time to do the grid method for my paintings. This could have been a great project but it is sub par. If i were to do this agian having the missing time back would help, but I also would go about it a completely different way. I would have done the grid method then completely paint the background.
Compare and contrast
- similarities
- similar colors, pinks browns, yellows, and blues
- heavily based on work, looks like each other
- differences
- acrylic vs. sketches
- no flora vs. flora
ACT response
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork:What is the overall approach (POV) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
Mucha's technique displays pretty images while conveying a message, I wanted to implement that into mine as well
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
I've realized many people don't know of art nouveau. When people asked bout my triptychs, they thpught it was baroque.
What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
